Benue PDP backs APC on prayer session for Tinubu
The Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has organised a prayer session for President Bola Tinubu to help him succeed in his task of governing the nation.
Reacting, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in the state said the APC’s resort to prayers for the President showed that the party believed that the President needed to improve in governance.
The prayer session, which started at noon on Monday, lasted till evening and was attended by Benue APC leaders and party members.
Split into two sessions, the prayers held at the Markudi residence of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
The eight prayer points, which were anchored by the bishops in attendance included, prayer for the peace of Nigeria, wisdom and knowledge for the President, prayer for the turnaround of the nation’s economy and security challenges as well as God’s intervention in the ongoing nationwide strike.
They also prayed for God’s intervention in the security situation in the state.
The Benue APC Chairman, Austin Agada, said the prayer session was conceived considering the situation of the country and to commemorate the first anniversary of Tinubu’s administration.
Agada said, “This prayer session was organised for President Bola Tinubu, the nation and the SGF, Senator George Akume, on the occasion of one year in office.
“The situation of the country; the security challenges, the economy and the ongoing strike by organised labour.
“We all know that a lot of reforms are being formulated to take the nation to the path of greatness, so, we need to pray for the President and his lieutenants for God’s guidance and intervention in the ongoing nationwide strike embarked upon by the organised labour as well as the turnaround of the nation’s economy.”
Agada promised that the state and North Central geopolitical zone would continue to support the President and pray for his success in office.
Meanwhile, the Publicity Secretary of the Benue APC, Bemgba Iortyom, said the opposition party saw nothing wrong in the decision by the APC to organise a prayer session.
Iortyom said, “It’s a normal thing for adherents of every religious faith to pray for their leaders because leaders need to be encouraged.
“I think the fact that they have to pray for the President means they are of the belief that there are areas that need to be improved upon.
“And we are trusting that those prayers will go a long way to redirect the minds of those in authority to focus their attention on improving the security of the country and to see that Nigerians are suffering terribly.
“So, I hope the prayer will also help the leaders to see the need to refocus their policies towards improving the well-being of Nigeria masses.”
