According to reports from PUNCH, the intruders entered the university campus through an unfenced area at the rear, apparently with the intention to rob students.

Upon realising the threat, students raised an alarm and swiftly sought refuge in nearby locations. Law enforcement authorities responded promptly, preventing any casualties or significant disruption to university operations. The invaders reportedly fled in various directions upon sighting the security personnel.

Delta State Police Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident when contacted by journalists.

Edafe said: “They (the suspected robbers) entered through the broken fence at the back of the school, but the police responded swiftly and they fled.”

While reacting, a student leader in the University, Simeon Okpoko, said: “the incident underscores ongoing security challenges facing educational institutions and highlights the importance of vigilant security measures to safeguard students and staff alike”.

In response, the university administration is implementing heightened security measures to prevent future incidents and ensure the safety of the campus community.
