Pandemonium as Police Officer Shoots Corps Member in Ibadan
Pandemonium broke out earlier this afternoon, March 17, 2022
around Orita-Challenge, New Garage area of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital; after a yet-to-be identified police officer shot at a corps member, who was reportedly returning from CDS.
The corps member, whose identity has not been disclosed was driving a white Toyota Camry car while coming from his Community Development Service around Oluyole local government, when he was flagged down by the policemen but refused to stop.
In reaction, the policemen had pursued the corps member to New Garage to block his car.
The corps member, who was unaware that the policemen were pursuing him, reportedly rolled up the glass of his car and refused to talk to them.
One of the officers was said to have shot him in the chest and head at close range, which left him unconscious.
The incident reportedly led to a protest in the area.
A picture allegedly from the scene shows a hole obviously created by a bullet at the back windscreen of the car and the cap of the corps member in front of it as people gathered around the car to peep inside it.
An eyewitness said an altercation between the duo led to the shooting which later caused panic in the area as some youths protested but the policeman and his colleagues fled immediately, after he fired the shot.
Meanwhile, an NYSC top management staff in Ibadan, who did not want his name in print, confirmed the incident to our journalists, saying a senior officer of NYSC and the Chairman of the local government, is in a meeting with the Commissioner of Police but declined further comments.
