Oyo TESCOM release new date CBT exam start-up
The Oyo State Post Primary School Teaching Service Commission has scheduled the computer-based test for teaching and non-teaching staff applicants from Monday, July 29 to Friday, August 2, 2024.
Chairman of TESCOM, Pastor Akinade Alamu, announced this during a press conference at the TESCOM headquarters in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
He noted that a total of 62,000 applicants who passed the initial application process would participate in the CBT for available positions.
Alamu also revealed that 12,000 applicants applied for non-teaching positions, while 50,000 applied for teaching roles under TESCOM.
He explained the need for this recruitment drive, stating, “About six weeks ago, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr ‘Seyi Makinde, in his usual magnanimity, approved another round of mass recruitment for teachers and non-teaching staff in Oyo State.”
“You will recall that about four years ago, there was a recruitment of 5,000 teachers into the Oyo State Post Primary School Teaching Service Commission. Since then, despite the hard work of these teachers, vacancies in Oyo State secondary schools have persisted due to retirements after the mandatory 35 years, resignations, and ‘Japa’—as we call it.
“Additionally, since the COVID-19 pandemic, we have lost many teachers to death, further increasing the vacancies in the post-primary school teaching service.”
He described Makinde as a strong supporter of education, noting that he recognised the need to fill the vacancies in secondary schools despite the previous recruitment exercise.
The Chairman explained that the commission was carrying out this recruitment exercise in collaboration with relevant agencies, including the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Establishment, the Office of the Head of Service, and the Ministry of Finance.
Alamu reiterated the commission’s commitment to a transparent process, advising applicants not to rely on hearsay.
He added that specific dates and times for individual applicants could be accessed through the commission’s portal.
“The exam will be held at the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre, Computer Based Testing Centre, Ajibode, Ibadan. Applicants must print copies of their CBT examination schedule and application printout bearing their passport photos from the job portal. These printouts will grant entry to the CBT examination hall,” he said.
He also noted that the commission had chosen the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre for its expertise in conducting computer-based tests.
“Applicants must strictly adhere to their assigned times and dates. Loitering around the centre will not be tolerated. Successful candidates from the CBT will be required to attend an oral interview.”
Alamu mentioned that arrangements had been made for the applicants, including tents, chairs, ambulance services, and security.
He added that provisions had also been made for those with disabilities.
