Oyo LG poll – APC break silence on election outcome
The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has described the outcome of Saturday’s local government election in the state as a rape of democracy.
The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission announced on Sunday that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the state won all the 33 local government seats in the state.
But speaking on Monday, the Publicity Secretary of the Oyo APC, Wale Sadare, described the election as ‘a complete sham’.
He said about 80 per cent of eligible voters were disenfranchised in the election conducted by the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission.
Sadare alleged that Governor Seyi Makinde and the PDP connived with the OYSIEC to mess everything up.
He announced that the leadership of the APC would meet soon to make their decision public.
Sadare said: “It was a complete sham and a rape of democracy. We expected a decent electoral process but the governor and his party (PDP) connived with the state electoral body to mess everything up.
“About 80 per cent of the eligible voters were deliberately disenfranchised and they came up with fictitious figures as votes recorded. The leadership of our great party will meet very soon and we will make our decision public soon.”
The PUNCH reported on April 27 that Sadare demanded the cancellation of the local government election on the grounds that the election fell below the minimum global standards.
