Trouble arises for Oshiomhole as Judiciary inquired indicts his administration during his governorship reign as a breach of state’s procurement laws.
The former governor of Edo State and the current national chairman of APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has gone into trouble since his administration during reign as the governor of Edo State then was indicted as a breach of state’s public procurement law by the judicial commission of inquiry into the construction of the Edo Specialist Hospital and the supply of equipment for the hospital.
The findings of breach of state’s public procurement law was presented to governor Godwin Obaseki by the chairman of the commission, Justice James Oyomire (rtd), at the government house, in Benin City, On Thursday 14th May, 2020, where it was said that the award of the contract for the construction of the hospital was fraught with breaches of the state’s procurement laws.
According to Justice Oyomire, the procurement law clearly states that any contractor working on a government project should not be allowed to receive more than 25 per cent upfront payment upon contract award, which from the findings Oshiomhole’s administration did not abide to.
From findings, it was revealed that the immediate past administration paid 75 per cent of the contract sum upfront for the project to Vamed Engineering.
Justice Oyomire also made it known that part of the commission’s 8-point recommendation includes that the Ministry of justice should institute civil and criminal actions against those found culpable in the breach of the law and again the recommendation also includes the strengthening of the state’s public procurement agency and ensuring strict adherence to the provision of the agency’s law on the award of contract.
Meanwhile, Governor Godwin Obaseki, have assured the people that anyone found guilty of the above crime will surely be called to account for their action no matter how highly such person is placed in the society, this he said when he received the report of the case.
