One killed as hoodlums attack worshippers during prayer
The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested 12 suspects in connection with a violent attack on worshippers during a midnight prayer in a mosque in the Rigasa area of the state.
A 23-year-old man, Usman Mohammad, was killed in the attack.
According to the police, the attack occurred around 2am on Friday when a large group of armed hoodlums mobilised from Malalin Gabas, Tudun Wada, Rafin Guza, and Unguwar Baduko areas and attacked the worshippers at Layin Bilya, Makwa Road and Rigasa Kaduna.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, in a statement on Friday, said the police received a distress call from a concerned citizen, which prompted the Divisional Police Officer and the Commander of the Civilian Joint Task Force to respond promptly to the scene.
Hassan, however, said before the police arrived, the assailants had already stabbed Mohammad with a sharp knife.
He added that despite being rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention, Mohammad later died hours later.
According to Hassan, police have launched a full-scale investigation into the incident and have recovered several weapons from the suspects.
Hassan noted that the command had also increased security deployments across strategic areas, particularly around mosques, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
