One Killed, Others Injured As Gunmen Abduct Family Of Former Taraba SSG
At least one person was reportedly killed and several injured as gunmen on Wednesday, abducted about six children of a former Secretary to Taraba State Government, Gebon Kataps, alongside their police escort and driver.
The state Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Usman Abdullahi, who confirmed the development, said that the incident occurred around Jamtari Gayam in Gashaka Local Government Area.
Abdullahi said the family members were on their way back to Jalingo from Gembu after the yuletide break when they ran into the gunmen. He could not ascertain the exact number of the victims.
The PPRO said a villager was killed during the incident, while a police officer serving in Jamtari, was also abducted, and another escorting the victims sustained injuries.
The police spokesman said the command would not rest on its oars till the victims are rescued and the gunmen apprehended.
But Kataps said six of his family members, comprising his children, niece and driver, were abducted
Also confirming the incident, Paul Dogoh, the chairman of Gashaka local government council, said he was aware that kidnappers operated in his area on Wednesday afternoon. He promised to convene a security meeting to appraise the security situation especially in the area under contention and ensure that the victims are rescued and the criminals apprehended and dealt with.
