In a disturbing incident, a group of terrorists kidnapped a woman and her two newborn babies, aged just 34 days, from their home in Kurfi town, Katsina State.

The abduction occurred last Friday when the terrorists raided the woman’s village.

The incident was reported by Bakastine, a conflict journalist in the northwest region, via X on Tuesday.

The journalist wrote: “Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’un!!!

“These newborns, just 34 days into the world have been held captive along with their mother since Friday night after being abducted in Kurfi town, Katsina State. A ransom of 15 million naira has been demanded for their release.”

The situation has taken a dire turn, as the terrorists have reportedly reached out to the family with a ransom demand of N15 million in exchange for the safe release of the woman and her two newborn babies.

The news has sparked widespread concern and outrage on Nigerian Twitter, with many users expressing deep worry for the well-being and safety of the vulnerable captives, particularly the 34-day-old infants.

ASP Sadiq Aliyu, the spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters via WhatsApp on Tuesday evening.

He also revealed that one suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the kidnapping.

He said: “We are making frantic efforts to ensure their rescue. One person has been arrested so far in connection with the case. Investigations are still ongoing.”

SaharaReporters has previously reported a deadly attack by bandits on Sunday evening in Runka town, Safana LGA, Katsina State. The attack claimed the lives of two community watch corps personnel, Tajoddeen and Aminu.

In a separate incident on the same day, bandits raided Kanon Haki village in Faskari LGA, Katsina State, abducting multiple residents and plundering shops. The terrorists also stole livestock from the community during the attack.

On Friday, SaharaReporters reported the abduction of 20 medical students from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos, in Benue State on their way to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) annual convention in Enugu.
