Ondo State & The Way Forward – Faseesin Olasunmbo, Esq
The need and time to offer my best opinion in forging a new phase for Ondo political interests and diverse concerns has again arisen. However, it is important that we build a virile community leveraging our potential benefits should we unite to demonstrate resilience in leadership against odds. To major stakeholders, and the minor voices compelling otherwise peaceful resolution with some Dick,Tom & Harry calling Aiyedatiwa to embarras Arakunrin? Let’s see what this sheer opportunity looks like in the coming days with the Deputy Governor.
I knew Arakunrin picked Mr. Aiyedatiwa, the Deputy Governor, barring other competing interests, and I hope he continues to demonstrate & maintain the capacity of Deputy Governor in honour & place of his principal whose shoe & image in the political firmament of Ondo state and Nigeria portrays significance of huge magnitude in the manner his leadership, albeit imperfect, has placed Ondo state and the southwest in the front burner of political discourse.
Whether this image will continue to reverberate until his return depends largely on the conduct of the cabinet members, and largely, the role of Mr. Aiyedatiwa. The President of the federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, having intervened, is believed to have acted in the best interests of all parties to avoid needless bickering and political crises.
Consequently, it is obvious that the President has only demonstrated altruism and exceptional leadership in good faith. If the crying neophytes and meddlesome interlopers would upturn or, overrule the president’s intervention and suggest otherwise, that Mr. Aiyedatiwa invalidates the gentleman resolution held a few days ago or, act contrary to promises and agreements entered by all parties, for personal and pecuniary reasons, leaving the state to witness imminent and potential crisis, wherein, the Deputy Governor among other cabinet members have been practically involved in showing interests to topple or, take over from Arakunrin hence the bias that he cannot be more advantaged or, positioned than other interested individuals within the administration of Arakunrin, regardless of his place and position as Deputy Governor.
These, amidst other factors, are responsible for the immediate intervention of Mr. President in that parly meeting to quell the likelihood of trouble. That, the President yielded the clarion calll of Baba Fasoranti an elderstatesman and a stakeholder of no mean stature is suggestive of an implosion that may arise save and except all parties disregard public outcry and acrimony, but instead keeping up with the Aso Villa Resolution.
While I submit, the implication is that, no one can rule by force or, through the back door without invoking the rule of the thumb in its ordinary sense and simplest form. Invoking the provisions our constitution and relying on doctrine of necessity might not arise except and unless it is implied by the conduct of Mr. Aiyedatiwa and perhaps disregarding the joint agreement and resolution passed on the 23rd of November 2023
Parties, therefore, might choose to respect the intervention of stakeholders to maintain the current peace and decorum in the state or, plunder state to crisis in a bid to effect and manifest the feeble wishes of these folks whose interest is not altruistic but politically motivated, and perhaps to gain favour.
Mr. Aiyedatiwa, the Deputy Governor might choose to embrace his principal and undermine political interests, or seek to sacrifice his principal on the altar of False ALTRUISM. After all, those calling Aiyedatiwa to stab Arakunrin were not any inch closer when Arakunrin picked Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and imposed his choice of Aiyedatiwa on the All Progressive Congress as well as the good people of Ondo state before, during and after the election.
