People United By Sports, a sport group, and a lawmaker representing Akure South Constituency 2 in the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. Sunday Olajide has endorsed the second term ambition of Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
Akeredolu is seeking reelection as governor of the state.
The sports group which said its mission is to inspire a spirit of patriotism and hardwork in the State, promised to mobilize the citizens to rally support for the governor.
Speaking during the programme, the convener of of the group, Mr Seun Betiku, said: “ the performance of the governor in the last three and half years is commendable. The nooks and crannies of the State has turned to a huge construction site.
“As major stakeholders in the Ondo project, we the young professional can no longer stay on the sidelines.
“Through media advocacy and grassroots campaigns, we want to encourage participation in the electoral process, drive systemic changes in the community, local government, and state administration, and engender inclusive socio-economic development in line with the principles of democratic governance and social justice.”
A member of the House of Assembly, Hon. Sunday Olajide lauded Akeredolu’s administration for his positive impact on key sectors including education, healthcare, agriculture, power, manufacturing infrastructure, sports, and the civil service, is visible to all.
He said it was “only natural” to support a governor who is committed to the economic advancement of the state.
The Governor of the State , Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Temitayo Oluwatuyi, appreciated the group for their patriotism. He assured them of Mr Governor’s continued support for the youths, and the aged.
Award of excellence were presented to the duo of Odunayo Adekuoroye, a Nigerian freestyle wrestler who competed in the women’s freestyle 53 kg event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games where she won a gold medal and at the 2015 World Wrestling Championships where she won a bronze medal and Seun Ogunkoya, a Nigerian sprinter and two-time African Championships gold medalist over 100 metres.
Dignataries at the events were Hon. Abayomi Akinruntan, Hon. Taofiq Mohammed and Rt.Hon Samuel Aderoboye, Hon. Gbegudu Ololade and the State Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mr Jacob Adebo.
