Ondo Commissioner for Youth and Sports Hosts Ondo State Sports Council Coaches; Promises Motivation
It was a productive meeting at the office of the Ondo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Otunba Dele Ologun as he played host to the Ondo State Sports Council Coaches.
Present at the meeting include: the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, Engr. Ogidan; Chairman of the Ondo State Sports Council Coaches, Mr Rahim Tijani; the G.M of Sports, Mr Henry Babatunde among other notable dignitaries in the ministry.
Mr Rahim Tijani, speaking on behalf of the Ondo State Sports Council Coaches, expressed gratitude to the Akeredolu led administration for prioritising the prompt payment of athletes allowances since the appointment of the Commissioner into office.
Tabling such challenges such as poor reward system for athletes, coaches cadre problem, inadequate finance of athletes for competitions, poor safety measures (unavailability of ambulance and non functioning medicals), need for decongestion of the stadium, poor sports facilities, inadequate equipments, inadequate transportation medium, and the need for reconstitution of a new board for Ondo State Sports Association; the Coaches expressed their worries and want the Ondo State Government to intervene quickly so as to enhance better performance of Ondo State Athletes in future competitions and as well inhibit them from being easily bought over by other states.
Responding, the Commissioner commended the efforts of the coaches and praised them as builders of professionals. He reiterated the seriousness of the Akeredolu led administration towards sports activities in the state and promised that the Coaches as well as the Athletes would be highly motivated. He disclosed that efforts are on top gear to attract direct investments towards sports in Ondo State.
” Though the effect of Covid 19 pandemic is still very visible on our economy, but I can assure you that the Ondo State Government will leave no stone unturned and ensure that all the tabled challenges are addressed.
” You are aware of the new look which the Ondo State Sports Complex will be wearing very soon. Also, necessary machineries have been put in place to ensure that our coaches as well as athletes are motivated, rewarded and made comfortable. Ondo State Government will ensure that our bests are not lost to other states any longer.” He added.
