Omowunmi: How I met Mohbad 12 years ago on 2go
Omowunmi, the wife of Mohbad, has revealed how she met and fell in love with the late singer 12 years ago.
In an interview on TVC’s ‘Your View’, Omowunmi said they met on the social networking platform 2go when she was just 13 years old and he was 15.
She said their relationship started as a friendship, adding that they bonded over their shared love of music. She said she was a rapper, while Mohbad was a singer.
Omowunmi said their love journey was not without its challenges. She said the couple faced distance issues at one point, but they reunited in 2018 and remained together until Mohbad’s death in 2023.
“I met him when I was 13 — about 12 years ago— on 2go, which is an app. I met him there and we became friends. I used to be a rapper, and he sings too,” she said.
“We started as friends. Our relationship was based on friendship from the beginning since I was young. He was 15 at the time and told me he liked me. Our relationship continued until we got married, and God blessed us with a baby boy.
“We began our relationship officially when I was 17 while I was in university. He was in Osun, and I was in Ijebu-Ode. Initially, our relationship was not very serious, but we grew closer in 2018 and remained so until he died in 2023.”
Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, and was buried the following day. On September 21, 2023, his body was exhumed by police for an autopsy.
Joseph Aloba, Mohbad’s father, had vowed that the singer would not be reburied until a DNA test was conducted to confirm the paternity of Liam — Mohbad’s child with Omowunmi.
However, Abosede, the mother of Mohbad, alleged that Aloba “is delaying the DNA test”.
