Okpebholo suspends revenue collections, orders arrest of defaulters

The Edo State governor, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, has indefinitely suspended the collection of all state revenues, particularly in motor parks and other areas, until further notice.

The governor has directed the State Commissioner of Police to arrest anyone found defying this order.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the governor announced his intention to review the revenue collection processes soon and determine the next steps.

“The collection of revenues in the State has been suspended indefinitely. Anyone seen collecting revenues on behalf of the State Government will be arrested,” the statement read.

“The Commissioner of Police is hereby ordered to arrest anyone who flouts this directive and collects any form of revenue on behalf of the State Government.

“The Governor will soon address the issues and concerns raised and issue new directives. Until then, no one is authorized to collect revenues on behalf of the State Government,” the statement concluded.
