Ohanaeze Council Slams Anambra Governor Soludo, Urges Tinubu To Honour Pact On Nnamdi Kanu’s Release
In a statement by its National President, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the organisation called on the President to fulfil his campaign promise and honour the pact allegedly made by his son, Seyi Tinubu, with Kanu’s family to secure the IPOB leader’s release.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has come under fire from the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council worldwide for his remarks that releasing IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu would not end insecurity in the South-East region.
The youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation urged President Bola Tinubu to disregard Soludo’s comments, describing them as unrepresentative of the truth or the general belief of Ndigbo.
In a statement by its National President, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the organisation called on the President to fulfil his campaign promise and honour the pact allegedly made by his son, Seyi Tinubu, with Kanu’s family to secure the IPOB leader’s release.
Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, recently disclosed that the family reached an agreement with Seyi before the 2023 elections.
The pact, he said, ensured IPOB did not boycott the polls, with a promise that Tinubu, if elected President, would release Kanu.
The statement read, “We find it curious that any Igbo man, let alone a sitting governor, will throw spanners into the pressing demand for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
“Governor Soludo has for long demonstrated a lack of capacity to curb insecurity in Anambra State and finds easy blame on anyone else except himself.
“This is why he found it so convenient to play down the role Nnamdi Kanu’s release will play towards stabilising the South-East.”
It further stated, “We know that Mr President is a man of honour; he should not allow the likes of Soludo to mislead him.
“He should do Ndigbo a great favour by ordering the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. This will no doubt de-escalate tension in the South-East region.”
The youth organisation maintained that Kanu’s release is crucial for lasting peace in the South-East.
Kanu remains in solitary confinement at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters in Abuja following his extraordinary rendition from Kenya in June 2021.
