Ogun donates N200m to Maiduguri flood victims
The Ogun state government has donated N200 million to support victims of flooding in Maiduguri, Borno state.
On September 10, a rampaging flood displaced thousands of residents in the Fori, Galtimari, Gwange, and Bulabulin areas of Maiduguri.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said more than 30 people died and over 400,000 have been displaced due to the flood in the state capital.
Kayode Akinmade, the special adviser on media and strategy to Dapo Abiodun, Ogun governor, announced the N200 million donation on Saturday.
Akinmade said the donation was aimed at helping flood victims recover from the disaster and provide them with immediate relief.
The special adviser said the flood had caused an unprecedented humanitarian crisis in Borno, highlighting the urgent need for all Nigerians to assist those affected.
The Ogun governor had earlier sent condolence messages to the people of Maiduguri and the government of Borno.
He also commended the state government for its swift response and the federal government for its support.
Aliko Dangote, president of Dangote Group, had previously donated N1.5 billion to the flood victims.
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and Muktar Betara, a member of the house of representatives, also donated N100 million each to victims of the disaster.
