Zamfara NUJ delegates survive motor accident
Eleven delegates from the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zamfara State Council, narrowly escaped a ghastly motor accident on Friday while returning from the union’s presidential and executive elections held in Owerri, Imo State.
The incident occurred along the Abuja-Kaduna road. According to the Zamfara NUJ Secretary, Malam Ibrahim Ahmed Gada, the accident happened when the re-elected Zonal Secretary (Zone A), Comrade Abdurrazak Bello Kaura, who was driving the delegates’ vehicle, swerved to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle. The vehicle had strayed into their lane due to ongoing road construction.
“Our bus jumped to the other lane and brushed against a tanker, causing significant damage to the front and driver’s side of the bus,” Gada explained.
Fortunately, all delegates on board were able to exit the vehicle safely, with only minor injuries reported. “We all walked out of the bus by ourselves,” the Secretary said, expressing gratitude for their survival.
The damaged bus has been towed to Kaduna for repairs, where it will be kept safely pending reconstruction.
