NUC approves 10 courses for Kwara varsity
The National Universities Commission has approved ten new programmes at Kwara State University, commencing in the 2024/2025 academic session.
The approval of the ten new courses brings the total number of undergraduate programmes offered by the university to 80.
KWASU’s Acting Director of University Relations, Dr Saeedat Aliyu, disclosed this in a press statement made available to the media on Wednesday.
Aliyu said, “The approval for the new courses was contained in a letter to KWASU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, signed by the commission’s Acting Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei, on behalf of the Acting Executive Secretary of the NUC.
“The approval was based on the results of assessments from the resource verification visit carried out by panels of experts to the proposed academic programmes.
“The approved programmes include: B.Sc. Estate Management, B.Sc. Geography, B.Sc. Urban and Regional Planning, B.Sc. Mining Engineering, B.Sc. Marketing, B.Sc. Sociology, B.Sc. Criminology and Security Studies, B.Sc. Physiology, B.Sc. Human Anatomy, and B.Sc. Cyber Security.
“The letter, dated 10 December 2024, stated that the programmes are to be run in full-time mode, while the university was urged to provide adequate human and material resources for their development and growth,” the statement added.
Reacting to the approval, the Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, described the development as a reflection of the university’s mandate to produce human resources for the country’s development.
“The approval of more courses for KWASU is timely and reflects the university’s readiness to train quality human resources that will impact society,” Jimoh said.
He noted that the approval brings the number of undergraduate programmes run by KWASU to 80. Jimoh also lauded the institution’s staff for their hard work in securing approval from the regulatory commission.
