The Chairman of the Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Hashimu Dungura, has stated that the party welcomed the recent exit of Senator Abdulrahman Kawu to the All Progressives Congress.

Recall that the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje had on Thursday officially welcomed some key members of NNPP including Senator Kawu who defected to APC.

Dugurawa, who made the remark while reacting to the development in a telephone interview with The Punch on Friday, described Sumaila’s defection as a relief for the party.

According to him, the departure of Kawu had been anticipated and was not a blow to the party, describing Kawu as a “stubborn boy” whose actions had caused more disruption than progress within the party.

“We are not surprised because it is something we have been expecting. We had already suspended him because he had no value to add. That’s why he remains irrelevant,” Dungurawa said.

Dungurawa added that Kawu’s exit would restore peace within the party, allowing it to focus on its objectives without the distractions his presence had caused.

“The party will now have peace. He turned out to be a stubborn boy among the children at the party. So, having him out means the party can now focus on what it’s supposed to do, unlike when he was here disturbing the party,” he said.

Kawu, a former aide to Ex- President Muhammadu Buhari and a key figure in Kano’s political landscape, had announced his defection to the APC earlier this week, citing a desire to align with a platform he believes offers better prospects for governance and service.

His defection to the APC has now put to rest the long speculations about his possible exit from the party.
