Nigerians Are Worse Off Than When You Took Office In 2023 – Sowore to Tinubu

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has lambasted President Bola Tinubu, saying that Nigerians are in a worse situation now compared to 2023 before his inauguration.
Sowore made these remarks on Wednesday afternoon during his appearance on Channels TV’s Launchtime Politics program.
Sowore, a former African Action Congress presidential candidate, criticized President Tinubu and his associates for their lavish lifestyles, noting that they are funded by Nigerian resources, while the majority of the population struggles.
Sowore’s comments come after Tinubu’s recent media appearance, where he shared an anecdote about a friend who supposedly downsized from four Rolls-Royces to a Honda due to economic hardships, sparking skepticism about the authenticity of this claim.
Sowore countered that no one questioned how Tinubu’s friend acquired four Rolls-Royces in the first place, highlighting the stark contrast between the elite and the struggling masses.
He also pointed out that Tinubu himself had upgraded from a small private jet to a larger one, and from a Mercedes Benz to a Cadillac Escalade, all while Nigerians suffer under the weight of economic hardship
He said: “The Nigerian people regret that they did not listen to us in 2022, 2023 that this was going to be their fate.
“People who are getting beaten by the economic situation regret everything about where the country is today; they (people in government) can’t regret it because they are the ones benefiting from it.
“One of the things the President said during the media chat is that he has a friend who has four Rolls-Royces but now drives a Honda car. But nobody questions why your friend has four Rolls-Royces.
“He (Tinubu) came to the office with a small private jet but now you have a big one, you came into the office with a small Mercedes Benz but now you are driving gigantic Escalades. He did not buy the jet with his own money. He took the money from the resources of Nigeria and that was a $150 million jet. Nigerian people are (currently) worse off than they met them.”

Policies implemented by the Tinubu administration, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the flotation of the naira, have exacerbated inflation and economic hardship in Nigeria.
