Nigerian University rewards 50 students with N20m scholarships
The Proprietor of Hezekiah University and the Archbishop of Living Christ Mission, Inc., Prof. Daddy Hezekiah, has announced an annual scholarship for 50 students of the institution worth over ₦20 million.
This was disclosed to newsmen by the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Anthony Okere, in a pre-convocation press conference held at the VC’s conference hall over the weekend.
Prof. Okere said the beneficiaries, selected from all the disciplines and departments in the university, receive N100,000 annually from the scholarship scheme to support their educational pursuits.
He added that the gesture was to promote academic excellence among the students, ensure quality careers and bright futures for the beneficiaries, as well as advance educational development in the country and society at large.
Prof. Okere, former VC of Imo State University, further said the institution also prioritizes the welfare of all staff, disclosing that the Proprietor equally approved staff promotions to boost morale and enhance efficiency and effective service delivery in the school.
Speaking at the maiden convocation ceremony of the university, billed for March 8, Prof. Okere expressed the readiness of both management and students to ensure the success of the event.
He disclosed that part of the events lined up includes a lecture to be delivered by Prof. Aloysius-Micheals Okolie, Vice-Chancellor of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, titled “Paradigm Shift, Soliloquy, and Fungibility of Stemming the Tide of Education Lullaby in Tertiary Education in Nigeria: Opportunities Missed and Paths Not Taken.”
He said, “I count myself lucky to be the VC to hold the maiden convocation of this great university, which prides itself on its motto of ‘academic excellence with good morals.’ Indeed, we cannot wait to showcase our well-bred graduates to the world.
“We have had wonderful graduates, and each of them going out will be an injection of good seeds, and we are doing more. Our students are trained to reflect our motto. And with the level of training and commitment to work and studies in the institution, the students are adjudged to fit into the larger society as good ambassadors.”
“This epoch-making event will commence with pre-convocation activities on the 5th of March with the Alumni Induction and Seminar for the students, followed by a novelty match between the graduates and undergraduates on March 6, alongside other activities,” Okere further disclosed.
