Nigerians on X (formerly Twitter) have lambasted the media team of President Bola Tinubu for “leaking” his speech hours before the national broadcast.

SaharaReporters had reported that Tinubu addressed Nigerians on Sunday morning over the ongoing nationwide protests.

But it came as a surprise to millions of Nigerians that the President’s speech had already gone viral hours before the national broadcast.

Many netizens questioned the presidency’s competence, claiming that if a sensitive document like the address could not be carefully managed, it demonstrates that Tinubu’s government is not properly organised to move Nigeria forward.

A user, Opeyemi Marcus described the leak as an indictment to his media team.

He said, “If u can’t secure ordinary speech, how can we trust u with vital state documents.”

Chude Nnamdi wrote: “People were reading Tinubu’s leaked article along with him while the broadcast was airing live. Do you understand how wild this is? There is hardly any form of confidentiality in the office of the president.

“From his campaigns to this, it’s been multiple cases of confidentiality issues, leaks, This, from those expected to lead 200 million people.”

Mazi Natha wrote: “Bola Tinubu is right now reading word for word, this exact speech that was leaked last night. I have seen incompetence, I have heard of gross incompetence, but this — this is barometer, the S.I unit and the threshold for measuring outlandish incompetence.”

Obiasogu David wrote: “Tinubu’s National Broadcast Speech is a “Beautiful Nonsense” but who Leaked His Speech? Rather than laugh over or make jest of it, we need to be genuinely and seriously concerned that such a very confidential document is leaked in a very loose manner.

“It tells the level of “anyhowness,” incompetence and foolhardiness of the people managing the affairs of Tinubu. This isn’t the first time the “anyhowness” of Tinubu’s team will ridicule or bring disrepute to Nigeria’s Sit-of-Power.”

Baron Chymaker wrote: “Classified Document under the Secret Act leaked more than 10 hours before official release. Did the speech acknowledge the demand of the Protesters?”

Baby SAN wrote: “The leaked speech of Bola Tinubu shows a government that is inept and has a lot of holes in its leadership. A presidential pre-recorded statement was leaked 4 to 5 hours before it should have been released. A shame to the Presidency!”
