Nigerian Policemen Arrest, Brutally Assault Three Legions Officers In Lagos For ‘Wearing Face Mask’
They were then taken to Ayobo police station where the beating continued. They claimed operation of the Corps is not known to them.
Some officers of the Lagos State Police Command have allegedly tortured and brutalised three members of the Nigerian Legions Corps Commissionaire.
The incident, SaharaReporters gathered, occurred on Friday around Ayobo area of the state.
According to top sources, the policemen accused one of the legion officers of “wearing face mask in broad daylight”.
They were also arrested and taken to Ayobo police station and released after many hours to their lawyer.
“The three Legion officers were performing their lawful duty at a children end-of-the-year party around Gray Stone School, Samaria, Ipaja, Ayobo.
“Initially, two Naval officers came on bike to check who they were and probably maybe they were impostors. But they identified themselves and they all played together.
“Few minutes after the Naval personnel left, a police team inside a minibus just came and started beating the legionnaires unprovoked.
“They claimed one of them was wearing mask and his face wasn’t showing and that they must be impostors, they did this without asking them to identify themselves at all.
“They were then taken to Ayobo police station where the beating continued. They claimed operation of the Corps is not known to them.
“They were really maltreated and treated like criminals. They were on full uniform, yet maltreated by the police.”
In 2022, SaharaReporters exclusively reported how policemen attached to the Ogombo Police Division in the Lagos shot a member of the Nigerian Legion, Koleoso Abayomi.
The policemen had accused Abayomi, a security officer at Lekki Scheme II Estate of delaying and denying them entrance into the estate.
The victim was said to have been brutalised for hours before one of the officers shot him in the thigh.
“They wanted to get access to the estate of which the estate has its own policemen working with the legion officer inside the estate.
“On their arrival, the legion officer told them to wait so that he could call the Chief Security Officer but the police men disagreed and started beating him. In the process, Koleoso was shot in the thigh,” a source had said at that time.
