Nigerian man appointed Texas board member
The Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, has appointed a United States-based Nigerian accountant, Kenneth Omoruyi, as a member of the state’s Board of Public Accountancy.
Omoruyi was listed alongside the board chair, Jeannette Smith, and three other members including Grant Coates, Jill Holup, and James Trippon.
Abbott disclosed this in a statement on the Texas State’s website last Friday, adding that the term would expire on January 31, 2031.
He, however, said the appointments were subject to Senate confirmation.
Omoruyi serves on the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants – Houston Nominating Committee, the Leadership Council of Texas CPA Society, and the AICPA Sophisticated Tax Conference and Professional Ethics Executive Committees.
The statement partly read, “The board protects the public by ensuring that persons issued certificates as certified public accountants possess the necessary education, skills, and capabilities and that they perform competently in the profession of public accountancy.”
Speaking about the appointment on his LinkedIn page, Omoruyi said, “I embrace the opportunity with a heart full of gratitude and a steadfast commitment to uphold the highest standards of our profession.”
