Nigerian Immigration Service Confirms Glitches In Online Applications Despite Fees Hike

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has issued an apology for the technical difficulties affecting its online payment platform for passport applications.

The Service reassured the public that the situation is being addressed urgently, stating, “within the shortest possible time, seamless service will be restored.”
The NIS emphasised that “all inconveniences this may have caused are highly regretted,” and urged affected individuals to be patient.
The NIS further requested the public to “please bear with us” during this period, as they work to resolve the technical hitches. The notice reflects the Service’s commitment to ensuring that normal operations resume as quickly as possible.
The statement reads, “Technical Hitches with Online Payment Platform.
“We apologize for the downtime being experienced with online applications on our Passport Service windows.
“The Service is assuring the public that within the shortest possible time, seamless service will be restored.
“All inconveniences this may have caused are highly regretted.
“Please bear with us.”
Meanwhile, SaharaReporters had reported that President Bola Tinubu’s administration approved the increment of the country’s passport fees to “maintain the quality and integrity of the travel document”.
This was announced in a press statement issued on Wednesday night by the Nigeria Immigration Service spokesperson, DCI K.T. Udo, stating the new fees will take effect from September 1, 2024.
The 32-page passport booklet with a 5-year validity would now cost N50,000, up from N35,000, while the 64-page booklet with a 10-year validity would cost N100,000, previously N70,000.
However, passport fees for Nigerians in the diaspora remain unchanged, according to the statement.
The statement had read, “As part of its efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport, the Federal Government has approved an upward review of the fees for the Passport effective from 1st September, 2024.
“Based on the review, 32-page Passport booklet with 5-year validity previously charged at Thirty-five Thousand Naira (N35,000.00) will now be Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000.00) only; while 64-page Passport booklet with 10 year validity which was Seventy Thousand Naira (N70,000.00) will be One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000.00) only.
“However, the fees remain unchanged in Diaspora.
“While the Nigeria Immigration Service regrets any inconvenience this increase might cause prospective applicants; it assures Nigerians of unwavering commitment to transparency and quality service delivery at all times.”
