Nigerian Immigration Boss Tours Lagos, Ogun States To Strengthen Border Security
During her visit to Lagos, the Comptroller General engaged with key stakeholders, including the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, and the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
In a bid to bolster border security and streamline migration management, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), KN Nandap, extended her border assessment tour to Lagos and Ogun States in Southwest Nigeria.
In a statement signed by DCI KT Udo, Service Public Relations Officer Nigeria Immigration Service Headquarters, Abuja on Fruday, the initiative is part of her ongoing fact-finding and sensitisation mission aimed at reinforcing the collective responsibility of securing Nigeria’s extensive borders.
During her visit to Lagos, the Comptroller General engaged with key stakeholders, including the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, and the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Discussions centered on facilitating the operations of NIS personnel within the state.
Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the Comptroller General’s leadership and expressed his readiness to support the Service’s initiatives.
At the Seme Border, Idiroko, and the Lagos and Ogun State Commands, Nandap updated officers on new immigration initiatives.
These updates are part of the ongoing efforts to modernise Nigeria’s border security infrastructure.
She reiterated her commitment to officer welfare and capacity building, urging them to maintain high levels of professionalism in their duties.
A joint security meeting was held with sister agencies to enhance collaboration in intelligence gathering and sharing. The Comptroller General emphasized the crucial role of border communities in supporting security efforts.
Her tour concluded in Ogun State, where she met with traditional rulers, including the Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo and the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Prof. Saka Matemilola.
She also met with the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Adedapo Abiodun who was represented by the deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, to discuss logistical support and land provision for barracks construction.
Throughout the tour, the Comptroller General emphasised the importance of sustained synergy among stakeholders in combating trans-border crimes. She highlighted that the Service is committed to implementing digital strategies for enhanced border governance and national security.
Nandap’s tour underscores the NIS’s dedication to improving border security through modernisation and collaboration with local authorities and traditional leaders, ensuring a more secure and efficient immigration system for Nigeria.
