Nigerian Army Set To Receive Own Combat Aircraft, Deploy For Operations

Anew aircraft for the Nigerian Army is set to arrive at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (MMIA) Lagos State.
The aircraft is expected to be received by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja.

As the army prepares to take delivery of the aircraft, it was earlier reported this year that the United States Naval Air Systems Command awarded Bell Textron a $455 million contract to supply the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) with 12 AH-1Z Viper advanced attack helicopters.
It had been reported that the acquisition would enhance the NAF’s firepower and operational capabilities in counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations.
According to a notice on the Federal Business Opportunities register, Bell Textron will produce and deliver the helicopters along with post-delivery engineering, logistics, program management, and life extension support services.
The AH-1Z Viper, renowned for its combat versatility, features advanced avionics and precision-guided weapons. This boost aligns with Nigeria’s ongoing force modernisation efforts.
