Nigeria Police Force To Spend N6.2billion On Fuelling Generators, Vehicles In 2025
According to the proposed budget document, motor vehicle fuel cost is estimated at N5.7 billion while plant/generator fuel cost is expected to cost N511.6 million.
A review of the 2025 proposed budget has shown that the Nigeria Police Force police in different commands plans to spend N6.2billion on fuelling generators and vehicles.
According to the proposed budget document, motor vehicle fuel cost is estimated at N5.7 billion while plant/generator fuel cost is expected to cost N511.6 million.
The development comes amid the present fuel cost which is around or over N1000 per litre depending on location as of the time of this report.
If a litre of fuel sells for N1000, it would mean that police formations and commands are expected to consume 511,678 litres of fuel for plants/generators. Police formations and commands motor vehicles are expected to gulp 5.712 million litres of fuel in 2025.
Other fuel costs include N5.8 billion for aircraft fuel cost, N7.5 billion for sea boat fuel cost.
Refreshment and meals is expected to gulp N165.1 million in 2025, honorarium and sitting allowance N64.3 million, publicity and advertisements are expected to cost N517.1million.

Welfare packages are expected to gulp N1.2 billion in 2025. Sporting activities is budgeted at N919 million, recruitment and appointment (service wide) is expected to gulp N2.9 billion, annual budget expenses and administration is expected to gulp N215.5 million.
Already, there have been increased expenditure on fuelling due to surge in energy costs; Nigeria also faces a major problem with its electricity sector especially as it has recorded at least 12 grid collapses in 2024.
This has left Nigerian ministries, departments and agencies to rely heavily on generators for electricity.
Asides government enterprises, the private sector has also recorded increase in energy costs since incumbent President, Bola Tinubu removed subsidy upon his swearing-in in May 2023.
