The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCom) on Tuesday said it has rescued two Nigerian girls who were trafficked to Ghana for prostitution.

This comes barely a week after the commission rescued 11 Nigerian girls who were trafficked to the same Ghana for prostitution.

The NIDCom Chairman and CEO, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who made this known in a statement issued by the commission’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, said the girls were rescued on Monday.

Dabiri-Erewa said the two girls whose rescue operation was facilitated by the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) Ghana, under the leadership of the Chairman, BOT, Chief Calistus, are currently in safe custody.

The NIDCOM boss, who reiterated her call for concerted efforts in combating human trafficking in all ramifications as it is another form of modern-day slavery, noted that the rescued girls are giving useful information aimed at tracking down their traffickers.

She said that arrangements will be made to get them back to Nigeria and handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

Dabiri-Erewa said that one of the two girls is from Edo State while the other is from Lagos but both of them reside in Lagos.

Recall that 11 girls, aged between 15 and 16 years from Imo and Plateau states were trafficked to Ghana under the guise of working in the Neighbouring country as sales girls but were sold into prostitution.

The girls were rescued a week ago and returned to Nigeria.
