NFSAN SUPPORTS DR. HAUWAU TO PILOT FCET GUSAU AFFAIRS
The National Female Students Association of Nigeria [NFSAN] is the umbrella body for all Nigerian Female Students and Female Students Association and Unions both in Nigeria and in the diaspora. We are an indivisible and indissoluble body of Nigerian Female Students with the aim of combining synergy to promote our academic abilities and general welfare, to maintain a healthy and conducive learning community, to promote good governance and welfare of all female students on the principles of freedom, equity, justice, cooperation and leadership.
It has come to our notice in recent times that the College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), FCET Chapter is bullying Dr. (Mrs) Hauwau Mukhtar Abdulkarim, the Provost of the Federal College of Education Technical, Gusau (FCET Gusau), and threatening her in a bid to force her to resign her position as the college’s Provost.
This action by this group of people undermines the agitation and demonstration of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR to make sure that women are placed in strategic positions in leadership, especially when they’re qualified to do so. It also undermines the laws that have been passed supporting gender equality. Statutorily, in a female institute of FCET Gusau’s repute, a female is supposed to be the Provost. So, in a situation where some cabals are satisfied with forcing themselves to become acting provosts and have agreed to keep rotating this amongst themselves just to control the affairs of the institution by hiding under the guise of being members of COEASU is totally unacceptable and will be fought by NFSAN until the right thing is done.
Before Dr. Hauwau was appointed, due process was followed, hence, her appointment is deserving. Therefore, any attempt by a group of cabals to disrupt the peaceful transition that this institution is enjoying right now will be countered and fought tooth and nail.
It is highly significant to note.that this appointment was authorized by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who is vested with the powers to make appointments to leadership positions of this capacity of the Provost of a Federal Institute. Hence, the appointment of Dr. Hauwau was duly authorized and should not be subjected to unwarranted scrutiny or interference.
The allegations raised against her appointment lack substantial merit and should not in anyway impede her from fulfilling her duties. Any attempt to disrupt academic activities or coerce her to resign undermines the integrity of the institution and must shall be opposed vehemently.
Presently, FCET Gusau students have stopped coming to school and attending lectures due to the series of threats coming from the COEASU members. NFSAN hereby warns all parties involved to sheath their swords and support Dr Hauwau to develop FCET Gusau and take her to greater heights to avoid a counter outburst from the students.
NFSAN is committed to protecting her member schools from harassment and bullying. We are ready to relocate our secretariat to FCET Gusau and state a mother of all protest to expose these elements if they insist.
NFSAN hereby passed a vote of confidence on Dr. (Mrs) Hauwau as she continues to dish out her professional administrative delicacies and experiences that will culminate in the growth and development of FCET Gusau.
