The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) authorities have suspended its commandant in Kaduna state, Samaila Danmalam, top sources told SaharaReporters on Tuesday.

Danmalam’s suspension followed the gruesomely murder of an officer in the command, Aliyu Imran.

SaharaReporters had exclusively reported how Imran, an Assistant Superintendent of Narcotic 1, was burnt alive by an angry mob in Amana Kasuwa village in the Kubau Local Government of Kaduna State.

It was learnt that the officer and his colleagues were pursuing a suspected drug dealer when the suspect, in an attempt to escape, reversed his vehicle, killing at least three people on the spot.

One source had reported that three people were killed in the accident, while another source claimed that four people died.

However, as tensions escalated, Aliyu reportedly attempted to calm the situation but was instead attacked by an enraged mob.

“They were on a patrol at an intersection when a car passed them and refused to stop, they pursued the car and the driver crashed in a village and killed three people,” a colleague of the deceased had told SaharaReporters.

“So when they got to the village, the villagers attacked them and Aliyu was rushed to the hospital. However, they went to the hospital and brought him out, that was when they set him on fire.

“They refused to give his remains until his brother who is serving in the military invaded the village with his colleagues.”

A source on Tuesday said the commander of the state command had been suspended and asked to hand over to his deputy, Mohammed Ibrahim over the incident.

“Another update from the command, the commandant was suspended and asked to hand over the mantle of leadership to his deputy amidst the recent accident.

“The commandant was accused of negligence towards his officers. Sadly, this is not the first time the Kaduna command would be facing problems like this, we had experienced many mob attacks and stealing of exhibits by unknown individuals under his watch.

“Two months ago in Jere Local Government, our officers compromised with exhibit of over 15 bags of cannabis sativa, so many other things, and he (Commandant) has been warned several times, and that was what made the authorities to be angry and to suspend him.”
