Most Obidients are from other parties – LP
The National Deputy Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Innocent Okeke, has stated that the popular members of the Obidient movement are not registered members of the party.
This development follows the alleged Obidients movement’s ongoing attempts to influence the party’s operations.
Recall that the LP renamed the ‘Directorate of Affairs’ to the ‘Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration’.
It followed the controversies arising from the creation of the Directorate of OBIDIENT Affairs, in the party.
However, Obi openly criticised the leadership of the LP over the creation of the Directorate of Obidient Movement and disowned the group’s self-styled leader, Marcel Ngogbehei.
Speaking to Sunday PUNCH, the Deputy Publicity Secretary said that many of the Obidients, who gained prominence in Nigerian politics, were not registered members of the Labour Party.
Okeke said, “There is a significant difference. Most of the Obidients came from different political parties. They are not supporting the Labour Party but are supporting Peter Obi. Among the Obidients, you will find PDP Obidients and APC Obidients. These individuals are currently fighting for control of the party from the outside.
“Recently, the Labour Party tried to bring them together to account for their activities, but they refused. They did not want to take on official roles within the party but still wanted to control its leadership. The real Labour Party members are united.”
