Ministry Officials Face Probe For Selling Two Helicopters Worth $4.8million Each To Private Individual For $1.2million

Some officials of the Ministry of Aviation are facing intense scrutiny after allegedly selling two helicopters, originally purchased for $4.8million, at a significantly reduced price of $1.2million to private individuals.
The controversial transaction has sparked outrage, particularly as several government agencies, including the Nigerian Air Force, Navy, and police, had expressed interest in acquiring the aircraft.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Public Assets, Ademorin Kuye, took the decisive action by ordering the arrest of the involved ministry officials.
Hon. Kuye expressed deep concern over the repercussions of the sale, stating, “This is a blatant misuse of public assets. Lives have been lost due to the unavailability of these helicopters, which were sold off without proper consideration.”
Detailed technical reports from Zaria, Kaduna State, revealed that one helicopter had accumulated only 42 flight hours, while the other had 46 hours.
Despite their minimal use and excellent condition, the helicopters were reportedly disposed of without adequate consultation with potential government buyers.
“We provided proof of maintenance and received interest from other government entities,” Hon. Kuye emphasised.
“It is unacceptable that despite the clear demand from government agencies, these helicopters were auctioned off at a fraction of their value.”
The auction, reportedly conducted on May 24th, resulted in the sale of both helicopters for $1.2million, as confirmed by internal memos seen by sources.
Questions have arisen regarding the transparency and documentation of the sale process.
“There are serious discrepancies in how this auction was conducted,” Hon. Kuye remarked, highlighting concerns about procedural irregularities.
“The Ministry of Aviation must be held accountable for this negligence and lack of transparency.”
