Former Governor of Ondo state, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, has said only credible electoral system will guarantee sustainability and continuity of people-oriented projects in Nigeria.
Mimiko stated this on Thursday in Port Harcourt while commissioning the Rumuola Flyover, built in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area by the Nyesom Wike-led PDP government of Rivers State.
Mimiko who was the Special Guest of Honour at the event said Governor Wike is indeed worthy of the “Mr. Project” sobriquet he is identified with as he has conceived and delivered several projects that are visible to all.
“Governor (Wike), you have proved worthy of your sobriquet: “Mr. Project!… Even those who feel unsettled by your words and actions cannot take away the fact that you conceive projects, you plan projects, you deliver projects! And permit me to say, you do love projects. A kind of love driven by your love for the people, especially the hoi poloi,” Mimiko said.
The former Governor said “the only way to ensure all these your laudable projects are sustained is to emplace a credible electoral system in the country, adding that without credible electoral system, continuity of good governance will be almost impossible.”
“One other truth about you is that your straight razor-sharp and unabashed pursuit of righting some fundamental distortions in the polity, is a constant nightmare to many.
The former governor also harped on restructuring, as he said it is the best way to bring governance to the people
“We (Wike and Mimiko) both seem to agree that restructuring is not an end itself but an imperative means to a just, more productive and more prosperous nation, for all of our people East, North, South and West, Christians, Muslims, traditional Religious worshippers and even atheists”.
In his speech, Governor Wike said he will continue to prioritize people-oriented projects. He said the people of the state can see the number of flyovers he is able to complete in two years, among other projects.
The Flyover which is one in the series of projects conceived and delivered by the Wike-led PDP government in Rivers state, was built by Julius Berger Nigeria Limited.
