Many Seriously Injured as Fubara, Wike Supporters Clash in Rivers
A violent confrontation between supporters of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has left four individuals severely injured after gunshots were fired during the clash. The incident occurred around 7 a.m. on Wednesday at the Elele Roundabout in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State
The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the incident, with spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko stating that patrol teams from the Elele Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), were immediately dispatched to the scene upon receiving credible intelligence about an unlawful assembly of suspected hoodlums at the location. Iringe-Koko explained that when officers attempted to address the crowd, an unidentified assailant, concealed in the vicinity, opened fire on the group. The gunfire led to multiple injuries, with four victims sustaining bullet wounds. “At press time, the number of those injured stood at four,” Iringe-Koko said in a statement. “The armed hoodlums fled the scene immediately, but one of them was apprehended. A single-barrel gun was recovered from the suspect, who is now in police custody.”
The injured victims were promptly transported to local hospitals in Elele for medical treatment. Authorities have launched a manhunt for the other suspects involved, with some individuals believed to be affiliated with the local vigilante group, OSPAC.
