Man arrested for raping minor in Adamawa
The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 43-year-old man, Rabiu Usman, for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl.
The command’s spokesman, Suleiman Ngoruje, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
Ngoruje said Usman was arrested for allegedly raping the minor at Timdore District, Ganye Local Government Area of the state.
“The arrest followed a referral from the Chief Magistrate Court, Ganye, based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother that, on February 16, the victim, while attending a wedding ceremony in Timdore village, went to a nearby house to drink water.
“Unfortunately, the suspect forcefully dragged her to the rear side of the compound and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her,” the police spokesman said.
He added that the victim was taken to a medical facility in Ganye for medical examination and treatment.
Ngoruje said the Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, had directed the officer in charge of the family support unit of the command to take over investigation and ensure a diligent prosecution of the suspect.
The commissioner urged parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and report to police incidents of sexual harassment or criminal activities.
