LGA election: Akwa-Ibom PDP suspends campaign over First Lady’s death
THE People’s Democratic Party PDP, Akwa Ibom state chapter has announced the suspension of its local government election campaign following the untimely death of the first lady of the state, Pastor (Mrs) Patience Umo Eno.
The party which announced this in a statement signed by its publicity secretary, Edwin Ebiese described the news about the first Lady’s passing as sad and devastating.
The statement reads, “It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we announce the suspension of our local government campaign, following the untimely demise of Her Excellency, Pastor (Mrs.) Patience Umo Eno, the First Lady of Akwa lbom State.
“This devastating news has left our party, and indeed the entire state, in a state of mourning. As we struggle to come to terms with this immense loss, we are compelled to pause our campaign activities as a mark of respect for the departed First Lady.
“We regret any inconvenience this suspension may cause and appreciate the understanding of our supporters and the general public during this difficult time.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, Executive Governor of Akwa lbom State and his immediate family, the government, and people of Akwa lbom State. May God grant the family of the deceased and our state the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss”
Prominent leaders and citizens of the State, including the Senator representing Akwa Ibom Northeast (Uyo) senatorial district, Aniekan Bassey have also expressed deep sadness over the passing of the governor’s wife.
Bassey’s Reaction
In a statement signed on Friday, Bassey commiserated with the governor and state over the loss, saying “I am deeply saddened by the heartbreaking news of the passing of Pastor Patience Umo Eno, the esteemed First Lady of Akwa Ibom State and beloved wife of His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno.
“On behalf of my family and the good people of Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, I extend my heartfelt condolences to His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, their children, and the entire family over this great loss.

“Her passing is not only a great loss to the family but also to the entire state as she was a pillar of strength, encouragement and faith to many. As we mourn this irreplaceable loss, let us take solace in the indelible legacy she has left behind and in the promise of God’s eternal peace “.
FLAGS to be Flown @ Half Mast
Meanwhile, Secretary to the State government (SSG), Prince Enobong Uwah in a brief statement announced that all flags would be flown at half-mast in all government buildings and facilities across the State as a symbol of Akwa Ibom people’s collective grief and mourning.
