LAUTECH Resident Doctors Begin Indefinite Strike In Oyo
The doctors, in a memo dated March 6, 2025, and addressed to the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Olawale Olakulehin, announced their decision to down tools from 12am on March 7, 2025, until their grievances are addressed.
Medical services at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, have been disrupted as the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) embarked on an indefinite strike.
The doctors, in a memo dated March 6, 2025, and addressed to the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Olawale Olakulehin, announced their decision to down tools from 12am on March 7, 2025, until their grievances are addressed.
Signed by ARD President, Dr. Stephen Adedokun and General Secretary, Dr. Adedapo Mustapha, the notice expressed frustration over the failure of the state government and hospital management to meet their demands.
Among their grievances are the non-payment of the minimum wage—already implemented for other health workers in the state—a significant shortfall in February salaries, unauthorised deductions for insurance indemnity, dilapidated call rooms, and a severe shortage of medical personnel.
Other demands include the non-payment of accoutrement allowance, delayed payment of upgrade arrears, outstanding refunds for examination and update courses, and the non-payment of the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF).
The doctors are calling for an immediate refund of the February salary shortfall, implementation of the new minimum wage with arrears, urgent repairs to call rooms, recruitment of additional resident doctors, and settlement of all outstanding allowances.
Speaking on the situation, Dr. Adedokun stated that despite multiple engagements with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and relevant commissioners, their demands remain unmet.
“We have engaged the commissioners of health and establishment severally. All unions of doctors signed the minimum wage bill in January, which was implemented for others in February.
“Instead of receiving the expected payment, we were shocked to see a salary decrease in February. This is unacceptable, especially given the severe manpower shortage and burnout among our workforce,” he said.
