Lagos State Government Charges Online Influencer, #SirJarus To Court For Assaulting Wife
According to agency, he was arraigned before the Ogba Magistrate Court 5.
The Lagos State government through the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has arraigned popular online influencer, Suraj Oyewale, widely recognised as #SirJarus, for alleged assault on his wife.
SaharaReporters had reported on Wednesday that the DSVA announced that #SirJarus had been arrested and currently in police custody.
However on Thursday, the agency announced in a statement shared on its X added that the influencer had been charged to court on two-count bordering on assault and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.
According to agency, he was arraigned before the Ogba Magistrate Court 5.
The statement read: “Surajudeen Oyetunji Oyewole (@SirJarus) has been charged to Court, (Court 5, Ogba Magistrate Court) on Two Counts.
“Count l: Assault against his wife.
“Count ll: Conduct Likely to Cause Breach of Peace,” the agency said.
SaharaReporters reported that the agency had in June 28, reported that an allegation of abuse involving #SirJarus, had been referred for investigation.
It noted that Sir Jarus addressed the issue through a series of tweets, providing clarification on the incident involving him and his wife, Mrs Oyewale Ayoola.
In the now-deleted tweets, Oyewale alleged that his wife engaged in fetish practices and provocative behaviour, which he claimed led to a physical altercation.
DSVA in statement by Head Public Affairs Unit, Adejoke Ladenegan-Oginni, stated that as the Statutory Agency in Lagos State dedicated to preventing and responding to domestic and sexual violence, “we take this very seriously”.
The agency had maintained that domestic violence in any form was unacceptable, and the Lagos State government maintains a zero-tolerance stance against it.
“We have, as an agency referred this to the Commissioner of Police (Gender Desk Department) to ensure that investigation commences.”
These statements have ignited outrage on social media, particularly on X.com, where users have expressed a wide range of opinions on the matter.
