The Kaduna State University branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities has resumed an indefinite strike, citing the failure of the Kaduna State Government to honour previous agreements.

The strike, which took effect on Thursday, April 24, 2025, was approved by the union’s National Executive Council following a request by the local congress.

Chairman of ASUU-KASU, Dr Peter Adamu, and Secretary, Dr Peter Waziri, in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday, listed unresolved issues that prompted the industrial action.

These include unpaid salaries from May to September 2022, a backlog of Earned Academic Allowances since 2016, promotion arrears, and unpaid allowances for supervision of the Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme.

Other grievances include non-payment of entitlements to deceased members, failure to remit pension deductions from 2009 to 2019, non-implementation of the 25% and 35% wage awards, and the alleged erosion of university autonomy.

“The strike became inevitable due to a breach of trust and the state government’s failure to fulfil its commitments,” the union stated.
The union maintained that the strike would remain indefinite until its demands are met.
