Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represents Anambra South Senatorial District, has justified his decision to leave the Young Progressives Party (YPP) and join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Our heritage reporter online reports that the senator made the clarification in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday.

According to Ubah, every politician follows the interests of his constituency and his people.

“So for me, I think it’s time my people want me to join the center party and that’s the reason why I joined the APC,” he said.

Ubah said that it was not an easy decision, as he appreciated the help that the YPP gave him when he needed it the most politically.

“But now I’ve also been able to groom a lot of people in YPP and I think it’s time now to join the APC so that I can bring the dividends of democracy and then Renewed Hope to my constituency,” he said.

Ubah’s defection was announced in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during a brief plenary session on Thursday. The letter cited irreconcilable differences in the YPP as the reason for Ubah’s departure.

Ubah, however, did not explain the irreconcilable differences. Prior to his defection to the APC, Ubah was the sole member of the YPP in the 10th Senate.
