Just In :Tragedy As Nigeria Loses Two Judges In One Day
Our heritage reporter gathered that Justice Chima Centus (CC) Nweze of the Supreme Court of Nigeria has been reported dead.
According to DAILY POST, Justice Nweze died on Sunday at the age of 64.
However, the Supreme Court is yet to confirm his death as of the time of filing this report.
Recall that Justice Nwaeze had, in a dissenting judgement in 2020, declared Emeka Ihedioha of the People Democratic Party, PDP, winner of the 2019 Governorship election in Imo State.
Also, in a split judgement of three-against-two, Nweze delivered the controversial judgement of the Supreme Court which declared then Senate President, Ahmad Lawan as the authentic candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for Yobe North Senatorial District for the 25 February general election.
Justice Nweze, a native of Obollo, Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, was born on September 25, 1958.
In 2014, Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration approved the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC) to appoint Nweze to the supreme court.
In another report, the Federal High Court headquarters in Abuja has been thrown into a mourning mood following the sudden death of one of its Judges, Hon Justice Peter Hoommuk Mallong.
Justice Mallong died on Sunday evening in Abuja in less than 48 hours after the court commenced yearly vacation for judges.
The Chief Registrar of the Court, Hassan Amida Sulaiman confirmed the death in a terse statement released on Monday.
The statement he personally signed read in part: “It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the death of our own, Hon. Justice Peter Hoommuk Mallong, a Judge of the Federal High Court.
“Justice Mallong passed away on 30th July, 2023, unexpectedly after a brief illness in Abuja. We will miss him more than words can express.
“Funeral arrangements will be communicated to the public in due time.”
