At a replacement primary held by the party on Saturday in Port Harcourt under the supervision of an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Emmanuel Isong, Abe, a senatorial candidate for the SDP from the Rivers South-East Senatorial District and a fierce rival of the former minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, emerged as the winner

According to Muhammed Ibrahim, the chairman of the replacement electoral committee for the SDP governorship primary in Rivers State, Abe received all 30 legitimate votes voted in the contest to win.

At the primaries, Patricia Ogbonnaya, Abe’s potential running mate, was there. Senator Abe announced his departure from the party on Wednesday after failing to receive the APC’s governorship nomination in Rivers.
