Just In : Tinubu meets Ganduje, Gawuna over Kano APC position
President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday, held closed-door talks with a delegation comprising the leadership of the Kano State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
Leading the delegation was the APC National Chairman and former Kano State governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, who arrived at the Villa in company with his one-time deputy and the party’s candidate in the March 18 governorship election, Nasir Gawuna.
Thursday’s meeting comes barely a week after the Supreme Court ruled in favour of Gawuna’s main opponent, Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, as the duly elected governor of the Centre of Commerce.
Last March, power in the northwestern state shifted from the APC when Gawuna polled 890,705 votes, falling behind Yusuf, who the Independent National Electoral Commission declared the winner with 1,019,602 votes.
However, the APC candidate contested the results in court despite conceding defeat earlier.
On January 12, the Supreme Court restored Yusuf as the governor of Kano State, nullifying the appeal court judgment that declared Gawuna as elected governor.
Our heritage reporter gathered that the President might have instructed them to return to Kano and make peace with the ruling NNPP to move the state forward.
The NNPP leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, is believed to be Tinubu’s ally.
Kwankwaso, who was the NNPP presidential candidate last year and came fourth in the poll, did not challenge Tinubu’s victory in court.
Rather, he was seen hobnobbing with Tinubu, fuelling speculation that he was seeking an appointment in Tinubu’s government.
Although Ganduje served as Kwankwaso’sKwankwaso’s deputy from 2011 – 2015, the relationship between the two men had gone sour over the years with the former threatening to slap his one-time boss when they took turns to see President Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa last June.
