Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has authorized a monthly allowance of N10,000 for government employees and pensioners in the state to help counter the impact of fuel subsidy removal. This subsidy will be provided for six months.

The Chief of Staff to the governor, Dr Edgar Amos, who also chairs the Special Committee on Mitigating the Effect of Fuel Subsidy Removal, announced this to journalists at Government House Yola on Wednesday.

Furthermore, Dr Edgar Amos revealed that the governor has given the green light for the full implementation of the national minimum wage for local government workers, starting from the next month’s salary.

 

In addition to the subsidy allowance, the state government plans to procure 70 trucks of maize and 20 trucks of rice to distribute to citizens at reduced prices. They also intend to purchase 50 trucks of fertilizer to sell to workers at a subsidized rate, and provide shuttle buses for workers.

The Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the state, Dauda Adamu Aliyu, praised the state government’s actions, stating that these measures would significantly alleviate the burden on the workers
