Just In : Ondo University Management Reacts To Workers Protest Over Mass Dismissal
The management of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) in Okitipupa local government of Ondo state has reacted to the protest of workers of the University, over the controversial dismissal of over 35 staff, reportedly ordered by the chairman of the school’s governing council, Professor Akinbo Adesomoju.
The university spokesperson, Mr. Paul Adeagbo, who neither denied nor confirmed the mass dismissal, said the school authorities would react appropriately.
Our heritage reporter earlier reported how workers of the University gathered in front of the school gate, protesting the dismissal of over the thirty-five (35) of their colleagues.
The workers, who Locked the school main gate, vowed to paralyze all academic and non-academic activities in the school, until a the sacked workers are recalled to duty.
The protest prevented both vehicular and human movements into the university as the workers accused the governing council of the institution led by Professor Akinbo Adesomoju of sacking the affected workers.
Some of the protesting workers, who spoke with Nigeriancablenewsonline.com, said the sacked colleagues were duly employed, issued appointment letters, did all documentations and had worked in the school for over six months before the university council chairman, Professor Adesomoju ordered their dismissal.
“They (the affected workers) did their documentation as expected and were issued employment letters. They have even worked in the university for over six months,” one of the protesters added.
The workers described the decision of the management as “anti-workers.”
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Joint Action Committee of OAUSTECH in Okitipupa, Mr Dayo Temola, has asked the university authority to immediately reversed his decision.
Temola, who described the action as “mass sackings,” said that the workers of the school would not tolerate the decision.
He said, “It is trite to say that when this news had earlier filtered, it was debunked by the university management/council until yesterday (Tuesday).
“We, therefore, reiterate that the basis for justification of these mass sackings by the council is not tenable and will neither be tolerated nor accepted.
“The Unions of SSANU, NASU AND NAAT hereby reject these mass sackings and demand the followings:
“That the mass sackings be reversed with immediate effect.
“The Ondo State Government should as a matter of urgency set up a visitation panel in line with with the University laws.” he added.
