Just In : NYSC Told To Stop Posting Corps Members To Three Northern States With Strong Reason (SEE STATES)
Former Chairman of the Committee on Prosecution of Bandits Related Offences, Sani Shinkafi, has called on the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to refrain from posting corps members to states facing persistent bandit attacks.
This recommendation comes in the wake of a recent incident in which armed bandits abducted eight NYSC members in Zamfara State and demanded a ransom for their release.
Shinkafi specifically mentioned states like Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara as areas where corps members should not be posted.
He criticized the refusal of Governor Dauda Lawal to engage in peace dialogues with repentant bandits, contrasting this with the approach of Lawal’s predecessor, Bello Matawalle, who had successfully used dialogue to secure the release of abducted individuals in Zamfara.
Shinkafi highlighted the severity of the security situation in Zamfara, with thousands of people killed or kidnapped, making no part of the state safe.
Governor Lawal, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), won the gubernatorial election in March, defeating incumbent Bello Matawalle. Matawalle has since been sworn in as the Minister of State for Defence by President Bola Tinubu.
