A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former commissioner for rural and community development, Alhaji (Dr) Ilyasu Musa Kwankwaso, has urged the current governor of Kano state, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, to gracefully accept the defeat delivered by the Appeal Court in Abuja and refrain from pursuing the case further to the Supreme Court.

He said, “It would be another mission impossible for him to drag the case to the Supreme Court, going by the available evidence that nailed him at both the Tribunal and the Appeal Court. Hence, the need for him to go and rest until 2027.”

In addition, he praised the victory of the APC governorship candidate, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, characterizing his confirmation as the governor-elect as a triumph for democracy and the rule of law.

Kwankwaso, in response to the Abuja Appeal Court’s decision that removed Governor Yusuf once again, suggested that he (Yusuf) should have accepted the governorship election tribunal’s ruling gracefully.

Instead, he expressed disappointment that Yusuf chose to squander the state’s limited resources by pursuing the case at the Appeal Court.

Kwankwaso noted that the Appeal Court also invalidated his own election, advising him to regroup and prepare for a re-election bid in 2023 under a viable political party.

Kwankwaso noted that “Gov. Yusuf should have read the handwriting on the wall, analyzed the various pieces of evidence used by the Tribunal to sack him, adding that those pieces of evidence are convincing, and it would be very difficult for the court to neglect in ruling.

“As a brother, I am using this medium to advise him to shelve any move to drag his defeat to the Supreme Court but should just know that this is not the time for him to be the governor of the state.

He, however, disclosed that he is ready to pitch a tent with the ruling party, APC. The door is open for him, so that he would come for proper learning of democracy. The APC would groom him for any available future political appointment.”

Kwankwaso, in extending his congratulations to Dr. Gawuna for his success at the Appeal Court, urged him and the deputy governor-elect, Alhaji Sule Garo, to be prepared for the task of governing the state.

He expressed confidence that the people of the state viewed them as experienced and reliable individuals who would swiftly address the current issues caused by the removed governor.

Kwankwaso also praised the unwavering support and encouragement of all loyal members of the party, with special mention to the national chairman of the APC, during the challenging period of the case.
