Kenneth Okonkwo, former spokesman for Obi’s 2023 campaign, revealed on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily program that Okupe had effectively left the party when he resigned as the campaign director-general.

Okonkwo expressed his lack of awareness regarding Okupe’s interactions with the party after his December 2023 resignation, emphasizing that had the party won the election, ideological differences might not have been remembered.

Okonkwo questioned the existence of clear political ideologies in Nigeria, pointing out Okupe’s history of affiliations with various parties and suggesting that, at his age, he should be considering spending time with his grandchildren rather than switching parties. He stated, “Immediately, he (Okupe) stepped down as the DG, I can say with every degree of responsibility that he constructively had left the party because I wasn’t aware of any other interaction he had with the party. I think he just verbalized it.”
