Just In : Imo consumer protection commission, ministry of education to lunch children consumer’s right book soon
In her quest and continuous effort to nip to the board the high intake and production of unwholesome goods and products in the state, the Director General of Imo State Consumer Protection Commission, CPC, Hon. Obioma Okafor in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, has perfected all the necessary plans to lunch a children handbook on consumers rights.
Obioma gave the hint during a media parley with some selected journalists in the state who visited her office on consumer’s rights need assessment, last week.
According to her, the book is to consummate the governor’s efforts in his fight against fake production of goods and services in the state. She noted that since Governor Hope Uzodimma took the mantle of leadership in the state, consumer’s right is now protected without any compromise.
She said, “once a consumer’s right is protected, the citizens are protect, let me tell you, a consumer is a king and this agency is here to protect them without compromising the standard of the commission hence we are spiritual agency”.
Speaking on the contents of the book to be launched soon, Obioma affirmed that the book explains in details the overall consumer’s right which the agency wants the children in Imo State to learn hence the children are vulnerable to many things.
The handbook which is titled, “Consumer Rights and Protection” is a book for children. has 33 pages with detailed information and explanation on how Imo children will know their rights and the agency to report to once their consumer right is tampered.
The book which was written by Dr. Henry Uzokwe, explains that consumer’s right ought to be a privilege, as a consumer of any product has to know about his goods and services, he or she intends to purchase.
These rights include: choosing or having quality goods and services at the right place and to be refunded or compensated when there is mistreatment.
According to the book, there are eight rights a consumer needs to know: right to choose, right to safety, right to basic needs, right to consumer education, right to redress, right to healthy environment, right to be informed and right to be heard.
Thus, CPC as an agency of government is saddled with the responsibility of protecting consumer’s rights and also to proffer remedy once the right is infringed upon by the producers of goods and services.
Investigation has it that Imo State CPC under the 3R Government has performed wonderfully in making sure that consumers of goods and services in the state are not shortchanged in any form.
